Qayamat Music Review

So, everyone thought that there can be only one Jaani Dushman !! If yes, then think again. Because Harry Baweja has managed to have an ensemble a starcast that is, if not larger, but as huge as 'naag-nagin' drama Jaani Dushman, that we witnessed last year. Though the content of both the movies is as different as the batting of Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh, the common factor is the number of popular faces that are seen in Qayamat - City Under Threat (Now, this was a good one, isn't it?)

Qayamat has it all !! Two mainstream heroes - Ajay Devgan and Suneil Shetty (who were also seen together in Harry Baweja's superhit Dilwaale), a debutante` hero - Ashish Chowdhary(who has quite a number of popular TV serials in his kitty), an interesting combo of Arbaaz Khan and Sanjay Kapoor - who are pretty enthusiastic about playing the baddies and marching ahead to destroy an entire city, and hold your breath !!!....Chunkey Pandey who makes a comeback from hiatus. If all these were not enough then we have a strong femme` fatale` in the shape of another debutabte` ex-Miss India Neha Dhupia, who created quite an impression in her very first TV serial Rajdhani (a couple of years ago) as a daughter of a hot-shot minister. Incidentally Neha Dhupia had replaced Gracy Singh in Qayamat. Ria Sen plays the love interest of Ashish Chaudhary and Raveena Tandon (who was a part of Dilwaale team) appears in a special appearance. In arms with the baddies Sanjay and Arbaaz enters Isha Kopikar, who plays a girl who is soft and beautiful but eccentric and brutal at heart !!!

In all his previous flicks with Ajay Devgan(Dilwaale, Diljale and Deewane), Harry Baweja incorporated a bit of dialogues at the start of a number. The tradition continues with Qayamat where you get to hear a dialogue or two from most of the starcast. With the starcast like this, you expect music of all kinds - melodious, sensuous, foor tapping and rocking !! And Nadeem Shravan do not disappoint us here. Amongst the songs, already on the popularity charts is a typical Nadeem Shravan and Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik song - Wo Ladki Bahaut Yaad Aati Hai. A love song that suits Ajay Devgan characterization of a guy madly in love with a girl, it is extremely catchy and pretty hummable. No experimentation here but plain, simple music that you love to sing along. The sadder version of the same number is even more impressive if you are a true blue Kumar Sanu fan as he sings in his inimitable nasal tone !! And we are serious here !!

Abhijeet gets to sing the maximum number of songs in Qayamat i.e. four. The first one is, though, an average duet -Dil Chura Liya, with Kavita Krishnamurthy, which is just passable. A love song (obviously), it doen't make you get excited whenever it appears in the telly. Ya, Neha Dhupia certainly grabs your attention in the number, but that's it. Overall, the composition is just ordinary !! The second track by Abhijeet (in a duet with Sadhana Sargam and as solo) - 'Aitbaar Nahi Karna ' does impress and the credit should mainly go to Sameer here for this as he weavs the lyrics that get etched in your memory for long. A number about 'being controlled in love so that you don't regret later', it has the music arrangements by Naresh Sharma in traditional Nadeem Sharavan ishtyle !!

Another love song that does well is 'Mujhe Tumse Mohabbat Hai' by Kumar Sanu and Mahalaxmi. Again, a track about a couple who are regretting over their incapability to express their love for each other inspite of being truly in love, it manages to express their emotions well. A sensual number between Ashish and Riya Sen - 'Yaar Pyaar' by Abhijeet and Alisha Chenoy is an OK number which could have been better if Alisha would have sung in her trademark style rather being a bit subdued and subtle. Inspite of being a sensual number, it lacks the fire and somehow misses the mark. Another point to be noted is it's striking resemblance to Nadeem Shravan's earlier composition - 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu' from Yeh Dil, that was released a few weeks back.

'Mera Dil Dil Tu Le Le' by Shaan and Mahalaxmi is another duet between the same pair which is a fast paced 'masti-bhara' song in an album that is mainly filled with melodious love song. A good timepass track, it again falls in the 'Holds-good-till-it-lasts' category. A track that has the potential to rock the audience in a theatre is the title track - Qayamat. And there are two reasons for that - 1) It is westernized, mainly due to rocking arrangements by Ranjit Barot (remember his Tandav from Fiza !!),and 2) It is choreographed on Isha Kopikar, who is definitely bound to take this song to top of the charts. Wanted is just some neat choreography, lavish sets and glossy cinematography !!

In sum, Nadeem Shravan and Sameer deliver a score that does well to make its presence felt even in a hardcore actioner that Qayamat that deals with a story revolving around arms deals across the globe, toughened criminals, CBI, CDC labs, biological and chemical warfare and a deadly anti-virus !!!
